AmCham Shanghai’s sixth annual Government Appreciation Dinner, held September 12, attracted more than 100 influential Shanghai City government officials plus 300 Chamber members for a night of high-powered networking with Chamber leaders and members. The chamber was proud to host Shanghai City Mayor Han Zheng and U.S. Ambassador to China Clark Randt as keynote speakers.
In his address, Ambassador Randt noted Shanghai’s 14th consecutive year of double-digit growth, telling Mayor Han, “We share your aspiration that Shanghai achieve balanced and sustainable socio-economic development through developing the services sector, promoting innovation and protecting the environment. I know that the American business community in Shanghai looks forward to working with the Mayor and Shanghai’s leaders to help bring these three goals to fruition.”
Mayor Han shared the latest statistics on Shanghai’s impressive continued growth-rate for 2006 and its aggressive plans for future growth. He stressed that Shanghai will continue to serve as a manufacturing base, but will also grow its services industries especially in high tech fields. He pledged the city’s commitment to expanding and stabilizing the power supply, improving IPR protections, and addressing transportation challenges on Shanghai roadways and airports. He also shared Shanghai city’s goals for improving air quality and environmental protection.
